An affiliate marketer is someone who promotes products and services in return for a commission after a sales transaction takes place. Too many people think that merely putting a link in their blog or email marketing campaign is enough to get them to a level of financial independence. Wrong-wrong-wrong! An affiliate marketer needs to follow a set plan before promoting each and every product.
Successful Affiliate Marketer Steps
The first thing is to research the product. Learn exactly what it does and does not do. Go to the seller’s website and read the sales copy and see if it sounds too good to be true. Look out for those products or services that promise millions over night – it’s almost a dead giveaway of being sub-par. You know as well as I do that making money takes time. What do you think is going to happen to your credibility when you promote something like this?
The next step is to gather all the information you got from step one and come up with a way to present it without sounding like a seller. Successful affiliate marketers do not sell – they promote. Take the information and start by creating an outline that starts out by connecting a solution with a problem. As you work your way down towards the product recommendation, come up with ways to connect your visitors. People have a tendency to open themselves up to suggestion better when they see that you have experienced the same problem and this is the solution you came up with.
Put It Out There
Now it is time to present the information. Your first few articles are probably not going to be the greatest. That’s OK – don’t worry about it. Every new adventure has a learning curve and becoming an affiliate marketer is no stranger to this process. What normally happens is that people try their hand at making money this way and give up way to early because of no earnings. What they are not doing is learning from their mistakes which takes us to the final step.
Observe and adapt based on your results. There are no rules or laws that say you can’t change the your methods of providing solutions to people’s problems. Use programs and applications that monitor the analytics of each one of your campaigns. If one is doing better than another, find out why. Look at what you did differently and adjust your presentations accordingly. Another great resource when trying to increase your conversions is to check out your competition. See what they are doing to be successful and apply to your current and future techniques.
So based on this information, are you going to be an affiliate marketer or a salesman – the choice is yours. Just remember that the two are not the same. The best thing to do is never treat an unsuccessful campaign as a failure – consider a learning experience.
