This article is part of a series.
Part 1 – Affiliate Marketing – The Basics
Part 2 – Affiliate Marketer – Do You Really Know What One Is?
Suppose you have a problem that needs to be solved in a cost effective and timely manner. Where do you go to get answer? You usually start by typing in a query into the search engine and review the results. You will see companies that make every attempt at convincing you that theirs is the best, but how do you really know?
This Is Where Affiliates Come Into Play
Companies utilize affiliates to help promote their products and services through reviews and suggestions. People have a tendency to be swayed towards a purchase when they see that someone else has experienced a similar situation and what was used to resolve it.
Another reason affiliates are needed is to help keep costs down. Without having to worry about advertising costs as much, companies can focus on creating new products or improving on what they currently offer.
The largest benefit companies experience comes from the fact that they do not pay any commissions unless a sale is made. So the bottom line is they get huge exposure with little to no overhead. It is a win-win situation for both the affiliates that represent the products and merchant who create them.
But The Pool Is Already Full
Some people will go as far as asking, “with so many affiliates out there, do we really need more?”. The answer is of course. You have to understand that the way people promote products come in only a few forms. There are the ones who just add a link to an affiliate product without adding any value to it. These people usually do not make any money and do not generate a lot of repeat traffic.
The next type – the kind you want to be – provide solutions, and offer the methods used to arrive at those solutions. Since there are more of the first type than the second, your chances are better for success.
So in an answer to the original question, yes affiliates are needed – just better ones that are more concerned with helping others rather than trying to get rich quick by preying on naive consumers.
