How much of a demand is there on the internet for your topic? If no one is searching for it, leave it in the dust and pick another one. Why put all your time and effort into a lost cause?

Right from the start, as you create a list of potential blog topics, keep in mind that they need to be scalable. Pick something that you can branch out with, but is still unique enough to have its own niche.

Get Ready For The Seeds

If your topic was gardening and you did a search, you would see over 200 million results. If you were to be more specific like planting squash, the results drop to around 4 million. That is a huge drop but we can go even further by picking what kind of squash. Planting spaghetti squash drops your competition down to approximately 65 thousand. Now we are getting somewhere. So by narrowing down your topic, you are able to create niche that might be profitable. This example is only meant to show you about refining your topic. If you were to check how many people actually search for planting spaghetti squash, you would see the monthly results are quite low but at least you get the point.

Based on the previous example, now we get into scalability. There needs to be enough areas in your topic to write about. For instance, lets brainstorm the spaghetti squash seed idea.

1) In the ground

a) Organic

b) Chemically aided

i) Natural fertilizers

ii) Synthetic fertilizers

2. Hydroponics

a) Commercial systems for consumers

b) Home built systems

Open Minded Blog Topics

This is the way you need to think when coming up with a topic. Just because one of your blog topics might seem limited, don’t put blinders on too quick.

Before you commit to a topic, see what content your potential competition is providing. If they are getting reasonable traffic and offering unique merchandise then you need to determine what you can do to provide more than them.

Money – do you want to make some? Take into consideration if you can profit from your blogs topic. Once again, look at your potential competition to see what they are offering. Another good place to look is on Amazon.com which seems to have at least one of everything for sale. You can also go directly to a seller’s website and see if they have an affiliate program.

Just by doing a little bit of research, you can find out if your idea has potential.  After you have performed the steps on each one of your topic ideas, you should be able to see which one has the best chance of helping you fulfill your goals.
