In order for your blog to have any success, some planning needs to take place. These steps are necessary, although sometimes boring and tedious, for your blog to go from idea to a resource on the internet providing quality content.
Before You Begin Setting Up A Blog
What do you really want to become of your blog? One of the most crucial steps you must take is to determine and define your goals. As with any goal setting, take the overall desired plan and break it down into smaller goals. Continue to do this until you have created a list of small of easily obtainable goals. The possibilities are endless but whatever you choose, make sure it is something realistic and obtainable.
What To Write About
Picking a topic seems like it would be easy, but you would be surprised at how many people get stuck trying to do this. One way is to write down 5 things that interest you and then do a search for competition. Just remember that no matter what you choose, be prepared to write about your topic forever!!!
Do You Have the Time?
At first, setting up a blog is going to take up most of your creative time. Once the foundation is in place, you can focus on providing never-ending content. You do not have to post every day but as you learn to blog, you will see that your followers will be more likely to stay if you post on a consistent basis. Not only will you have to set time aside to write, but you will also need to do blog maintenance. This comes in the form of tweaking and editing to help get a higher rank in the search engine results.
There Are Going To Be Costs
Do you have any money? Some people do and others do not. No matter what anyone tells you, setting up a blog and maintaining it costs money. These costs come from domain registration, hosting, advertising, and the list can go on and on. There are blogs that can be set up on free hosts, but these still come at a cost because you give up control of certain features such as size or even the ability to receive profits from advertising.
Making It Pretty
Whether you create a personal, commercial, informational or any other kind of blog, design considerations are a top priority. Your design needs to be based on the purpose for creating it in the first place. Blogs should look professional. Just because you might be an amateur, does not mean that your blog should look like an amateur designed it. Visit other blogs and make a list of the pros and cons of each one. Reference this list as you create your blog and try to incorporate the items from the pros list and avoid or edit anything that might be similar to what is on the cons list.
Who Is It For?
The people you want to visit your blog are known as the target audience. You are one of the people in my target audience. Once the purpose of your new blog is defined, then determining your target audience will become much easier. Being the owner of a blog, it is going to be your responsibility to know your who these people are.Know things like their age, where they live and many more demographics will help you be successful in your blogging journey.
In closing, setting up a blog is not as simple as what you might have previously thought. The reason there are so many unsuccessful and unmaintained blogs on the internet is poor planning. People think all you need to do is post something and everyone on the planet is going to come and see what you have to say. Then reality kicks in and they give up. Don’t be one of those people !!!
